Parish Nurse
Christ's ministry was always holistic; Christ treated the "whole" person physically, emotionally, spiritually. His was a healing ministry, and he urged his disciples to follow his example.
Parish nursing is simply being there to help others. People are troubled with today's complex and often confusing healthcare issues and concerns. Many times people find it is difficult to sort out and receive needed services. For some, there are pressing issues that must be faced on a daily basis, taking up all of their strength and endurance. The job of a parish nurse is to stand alongside and assist people in this struggle.
Parish Nurse Ministry
The Parish Nurse is a registered nurse with specialized education providing for the holistic healthcare needs of the Parish. They encourage each individual's physical, emotional, spiritual and social well being in the context of their relationship with God, family and neighbor. The Parish Nurse works closely with church staff, especially the pastoral staff, in a team approach to the ministry of the church.
The Parish Nurse ministry is provided to Parishioners at no cost.
The Parish Nurse:
- Is a patient advocate and personal health counselor
- Is an educator
- Is a source of referral toward existing services and programs
- Has a medical supply loan closet available to parishioners
- Visits Parishioners in their homes, hospitals, nursing homes, in the office or through telephone contacts
- Counsels Parishioners on health-related Issues
- Assists in obtaining needed health servIces
- Helps Parishioners understand the relationship between body, mind and spirit
- Assists in adapting important lifestyle changes
- Offers presence and prayer during times of crises and celebration
- Acts as a referral source and provides linkage to existing support and healthcare resources
- Offers CD recordings of a weekend mass
